The new 2019 RAM 1500 is one of the best trucks for towing, thanks to its V8 engine pulling at 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. Its towing capacity peaks at a whopping 12,750 pounds. The truck also comes equipped with Four Corner Air Suspension with automatic load leveling for ideal hauling. However, do you know how to utilize all that power?
First, you’ll want to make sure you have the appropriate hitch for your haul. Typically, receiver hitches are defined by different classes, depending on the weight of your cargo. They range from I to V and are used for towing trailers, boats, or something of a similar weight. Or, you may need a specialized hitch, such as a gooseneck for maximum loads, a fifth-wheel for hauling RVs, or a bumper hitch for a smaller load.
When equipping your new 2019 RAM 1500 with a maximum load, you’ll want to start by taking proper precautions. Start by loading your heaviest cargo first. Make sure that anything you’re towing is properly secured into your truck bed and onto your trailer. If you have an open trailer, make sure everything is appropriately packed and evenly loaded to avoid swaying and pulling.
You also want to make sure you always have a full-size spare when you’re pulling a trailer. Reach out to our service department if you need a replacement for your RAM truck.
